Senior citizens hike at the regional hiking day in East Tyrol

Around 1200 pensioners are expected at the 42nd Provincial Hiking Day on June 8th in Nußdorf-Debant. The organizers have planned three routes for the hikers and are hoping for many guests and good weather.

In addition to the Pensioners' Ball, the Provincial Hiking Day is one of the highlights of the year for members of the Tyrolean Pensioners' Association Austria (PVÖ). After a successful event in Inzing last year, the hiking day will be held in East Tyrol again this year.

"As Lienz is not an option, I suggested my municipality," explains Günther Hatz, Chairman of the Nußdorf-Debant PV Association - much to the delight of the 18,000 members in Tyrol and Tyrolean PV President Herbert Striegl: "We don't want to exclude any district. After the pandemic, hiking was the one activity that could be done without any problems. That's why this day is so important."

There will be three routes on June 8. For those who want to walk a little, there is a two-kilometer flat stage. For those who want to enjoy some challenging terrain with views of the valley floor, the five and eight-kilometre routes up the Nußdorfer Berg towards Debanttal are the right choice. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, helpers (from the mountain rescue service or fire department) will be with each hiking group.

Music, culinary delights and honors are on the agenda
As befits a festival, there also needs to be a place for music and catering. This is provided by the municipality in the tennis hall. 25 sponsors also ensure that costs are covered and prizes can be awarded. There is a prize for the district or local group with the most participants as well as for the oldest guests. The entry fee is ten euros.
