Burgenland tourism had a picture-perfect start to the season. Thanks to summer temperatures, people are already busy cycling. Whether it's the lake opening or the culture and enjoyment campaign - the next marketing projects are already being worked on at full speed, says Managing Director Didi Tunkel.

The first two months of this year have already brought strong growth in overnight stays and records. With more than 307,000 overnight stays, the increase compared to the same period in 2023 was ten percent. This trend is set to continue. For March, the data available so far indicates an absolute record result even before the official evaluation.

Doskozil praises "dream start"
"This is a dream start that we have made with the many top Burgenland businesses and employees for the 2024 season," says a delighted Governor Hans Peter Doskozil. He not only sees the highly successful development as confirmation of the promotional measures. Doskozil is also enthusiastic about Burgenland's path as a "first-class travel destination with the earliest spring in Austria". He wants to consolidate this position.

A flash survey throughout the state shows that the market is highly competitive. However, with clever marketing strategies, most businesses have managed to ensure high capacity utilization at the early date of the Easter vacations, explains Didi Tunkel, Managing Director of Burgenland Tourism.

For the sake of health
The thermal spas, wellness hotels and the health sector as well as attractive family offers were in particularly high demand, he says. Around Lake Neusiedl, Easter brought the first big boost in visitor numbers. The campsite in Podersdorf, for example, was fully booked and the lido already had more than 4,000 visitors - not including many surfers and sailors.

Fakten

February closed in Burgenland with 157,513 overnight stays and an increase of 12.3% compared to the same month in 2023. This figure exceeds the previous record result from 2020 by four percent. The number of arrivals in February also reached a new high of 59,212, which corresponds to an increase of 15.2 % compared to 2023. 86.4% of overnight stays were accounted for by guests from within Germany. Domestic overnight stays increased by 14.1%, while overnight stays by foreign guests rose by 2.3% compared to the previous year.

Excited to see how things will continue
Despite the current summer weather, tourism experts are still cautious in their assessment of occupancy rates in April. However, they are looking forward to May with its many public holidays with confidence.
