Former Federal Chancellor and ÖVP leader Sebastian Kurz has apparently had a job for some time that was previously unknown. He is said to be the director of a state-owned company in Abu Dhabi. The Masdar Group is active in the field of renewable energies.

According to the company register, Kurz is said to be one of the seven directors of the "Masdar Solar & Wind" cooperation, which acts as the group's European subsidiary, as first reported by the "Standard". The company is based in Amsterdam and manages solar power plants and wind farms in the UK, Poland and the Balkans, for example.

Operating since April 2022 according to the company register
According to the Dutch company register, he has been in this position since April 2022 - just six months after his resignation as Chancellor. It is not known exactly what his new job entails and how much he earns from it.

There is no mention of the new position on the website of Kurz's consultancy firm, SK Management GmbH. It only mentions investment projects with the entrepreneur Alexander Schütz, consultancy work for US investor Peter Thiel and the co-founding of the cybersecurity company Dream, based in Tel Aviv.

Green model city for 15 billion euros
The energy company Masdar from the United Arab Emirates caused a stir in the past with the construction of a green model city in the desert. Masdar City is located near Abu Dhabi airport and is set to cost 15 billion euros. According to its own statements, it aims to become "the world's first CO2-neutral, waste-free city powered solely by renewable energy".

Masdar has set itself the goal of becoming a global player in the renewable energy market. "We want to become the main source of the world's future energy solutions," explained Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber, who heads the group.
