Apartment destroyed
Mother and son (6) had to flee from fire
A 30-year-old woman from Villach had to flee her rented apartment with her six-year-old son on Friday afternoon. A fire had broken out in the children's room for as yet unexplained reasons.
"The 30-year-old became aware of the fire at around 3 p.m. due to strange noises coming from the children's room," explains HBI Harald Geissler, commander of the Villach main fire station. She then fled with her son from the rented apartment in an apartment building in Villach-Völkendorf and immediately informed the emergency services.
Woman and child reacted correctly
Three fire departments (HWF Villach, FF Judendorf and Völkendorf) fought the fire in the children's room with several breathing apparatus teams and extinguishing lines. After half an hour, the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished. "The occupant and her child reacted correctly by leaving the apartment immediately," emphasized commander Harald Geissler.
The apartment was made smoke-free by means of pressure ventilation, but is no longer usable due to the smoldering gas and smoke. The city of Villach is trying to organize a replacement apartment for the woman and her child. In addition, two people with suspected smoke inhalation were taken to Villach LKH by the ambulance service. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
