Lack of fire protection: refugee home evacuated
On Tuesday, 80 asylum seekers were taken from their rooms because their accommodation in Spital am Semmering did not meet the fire safety requirements. The mayor is surprised by this.
Due to fire safety concerns, 80 refugees had to leave their accommodation in Spital am Semmering without further ado on Tuesday.
The eviction was ordered a month ago and the deadline set by the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district authority has now expired. In November 2023, the municipality discovered several security breaches that could pose a risk to residents.
Mayor wants to fight the decision
Mayor Maria Fischer (SPÖ) was surprised by the eviction. Some measures had already been taken and she had expected a fine instead. Together with the operator, she now wants to fight the decision and is consulting lawyers. The asylum seekers, including children, are now being accommodated in Traiskirchen and Carinthia.
