Burnt body identified in Vienna forest

After a burnt female body was discovered in a forest in Vienna's Hernals district on Sunday afternoon, the identity of the deceased has now been clarified. It is a 63-year-old woman who had previously been reported missing by her relatives.

According to the current state of the investigation, the possibility of third-party involvement can be ruled out, said police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger on Tuesday. However, the autopsy results are still pending.

Suitcase and wine bottle found
The completely burnt body was discovered on Sunday afternoon by a hiker's dog in the woods near Schottenhof in Vienna-Hernals. The woman had a suitcase with a key and bottles of wine with her. The body was lying in a thicket near Amundsenstraße. An arson detection dog from the police dog unit assisted in securing evidence at the scene of the discovery.

At present, the signs point to a suicide or accident. There are probably no witnesses to the incident.
