After three weeks
Sad certainty: missing snowboarder dead
A man who was last seen snowboarding on the Bödele in Vorarlberg had been missing for weeks. He has now been found and, as feared, all help came too late for him.
As the police reported on Friday, the 44-year-old German, who lived in Dornbirn, was found dead on the Bödele. He had apparently gone snowboarding on January 20. When he did not turn up at an agreed appointment a few days later, he was reported missing. At that time, there was no indication of his whereabouts.
Finally, on February 6, the parking lot operator at Bödele noticed the man's vehicle. Search teams consisting of Alpine police and the police service dog unit then searched the area extensively. Hotel operators and vacation home owners were also questioned - but without success for the time being.
Hypothermia
During a further search two days later, the body of the German was found below Bödelestraße in pathless terrain. Apparently the man had strayed into this area and died of hypothermia.
