Lufthansa ground staff end warning strike
The German trade union ver.di has ended its 27-hour warning strike by Lufthansa ground staff. Around 30 flights from Frankfurt and Munich were canceled on Thursday morning. Normal operations are expected to resume by Friday at the latest.
According to ver.di negotiator Marvin Reschinsky, around 7000 people took part in the strikes. The strike began on Wednesday morning and lasted 27 hours (see video above). Up to 900 flights were canceled, and the airline had also canceled around 30 take-offs at its Frankfurt and Munich hubs for Thursday morning.
In the wage dispute, the union is demanding a salary increase of 12.5 percent, but at least 500 euros per month for a period of one year. It is also demanding a group-wide inflation bonus of 3,000 euros. Lufthansa, on the other hand, has offered a 12 percent pay rise and an inflation compensation bonus, albeit for a period of three years.
Will there be longer strikes?
The next round of negotiations is scheduled for next Monday, February 12. Reschinsky threatened the company with longer strikes if the previous offer was not adjusted. The airline, in turn, had criticized the fact that the conflict had escalated so early.
