Railing demolished
Hit-and-run driver wanted in the Innviertel region
An unknown driver caused extensive damage with his articulated lorry in the Innviertel municipality of Hochburg-Ach. The heavy goods vehicle demolished two bridge railings and caused damage to a field. A frantic search is now underway for the driver and it is hoped that his insurance will pay out.
It was around 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday when an articulated lorry roared over a small, narrow bridge in the village of Wanghausen (Hochburg-Ach) near Gasthaus Jungwirth, demolishing both railings and causing considerable damage to the land.
The shaped pipes had been torn from their anchoring and bent. A traffic sign stand and a wooden fence were also knocked over.
Municipality has bridge inspected
The unknown driver did not stop, however, but instead committed a hit-and-run. "The damage is extensive, we now have to have the bridge checked for its load-bearing capacity by an expert," says Mayor Martin Zimmer.
If the stream crossing has to be rebuilt, the municipality would incur costs of 25,000 euros. "We are therefore urgently looking for the driver. The towing vehicle was white, the semi-trailer had a gray tarpaulin," says Zimmer.
