Two injured in Upper Austria

85-year-old crashed into oncoming traffic while overtaking

An overtaking maneuver ended with two injuries on Friday. An 85-year-old man wanted to overtake a truck in his car in St. Marienkirchen, Upper Austria, which resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming car. The driver of the car (32) had to be freed from the wreck by the emergency services.

The accident happened at midday when an 85-year-old German was driving his car on the L512 from Suben towards Reichersberg. In the municipality of St. Marienkirchen near Schärding, the man wanted to overtake a truck.

In doing so, he collided head-on with the oncoming car of a 32-year-old from St. Marienkirchen. After the collision, the younger man ended up with his car in an adjacent wooded area and had to be freed from his vehicle by the emergency services.

Both drivers involved in the accident were taken to Schärding Hospital after receiving first aid at the scene.
