A terrible winter sports accident on Wednesday afternoon in East Tyrol: a teenager (17) and a 39-year-old woman collided violently in the Zettersfeld ski area. Both suffered broken bones and had to be flown to hospital by emergency helicopter. A third, as yet unknown party is believed to have caused the accident.

The serious accident happened at around 4 p.m., shortly before closing time. The 17-year-old Czech and the 39-year-old Slovenian woman collided on the family run - a blue-marked slope - at the height of the Zettersfeld fun park at an altitude of 1950 meters. 

To hospital by helicopter
Both skiers were seriously injured. "They suffered various broken bones as a result of the collision and were flown to the district hospital in Lienz by emergency helicopter after initial treatment," said the police.

Apparently a third party involved
How did the accident happen? According to the 17-year-old, he was rammed from behind by a previously unknown skier. "In the course of the fall, the teenager hit the 39-year-old woman in front of him, causing her to fall too," the investigators continued.

Investigators are hoping for clues
According to the teenager, the unknown skier did not fall and continued his journey without stopping. The man was described as being around 1.75 meters tall. He was wearing black winter clothing and a ski helmet.
