Salzburg lose test match against Midtjylland

Runners-up Red Bull Salzburg have lost their last test match before their Champions League match at Real Madrid next week. The Salzburg team were beaten 2:3 (1:1) by Danish champions and Europa League participants FC Midtjylland at their training camp in Portugal on Wednesday.

Former ÖFB team striker Karim Onisiwo scored the equalizer in his first appearance for the Bulls (57'). Petar Ratkov also scored from the penalty spot (63').

One half of 60 minutes and one half of 45 minutes were played at the Estadio Algarve in Faro-Loule. Onisiwo was substituted in the 46th minute. He had missed Salzburg's first test of their winter preparations on Epiphany Day against Bayern Munich (0:6) due to illness. The 32-year-old is not yet eligible to play in the remaining Champions League games at Real (January 22) and at home against Atletico Madrid (January 29). The new signing is therefore likely to make his competitive debut for Salzburg in the Cup quarter-final against LASK on February 2.

"I'm a little annoyed that we didn't win the game because we had the chance to do so," said Salzburg coach Thomas Letsch, who had sent his team out onto the pitch in a 4-2-2-2 formation as he did against Bayern. The ÖFB team goalkeeper Alexander Schlager and midfielder Bobby Clark were still missing after illnesses. Amar Dedic (ankle), Hendry Blank and Daouda Guindo (both knee) were missing with minor injuries, as were the long-term absentees Maurits Kjaergaard and Karim Konate. The Salzburgers return to Austria from the Algarve on Friday.
