E-scooter driver (22) dies after accident with streetcar

On Tuesday evening, a tragic accident occurred between an e-scooter rider and a streetcar on line 9 in Vienna's Hernals district. The driver of the two-wheeler (22) died shortly afterwards from his serious head injuries.

At around 7.30 p.m., the e-scooter rider was traveling on Geblergasse in the direction of Wattgasse. At the junction, there was a terrible accident with a moving Wiener Linien streetcar, as the 22-year-old had disregarded the right of way and collided with the streetcar despite braking hard in Rosensteingasse. He suffered serious head injuries.

Died in the trauma room
The emergency services were alerted and took him to hospital as quickly as possible. However, he lost his fight for survival in the hospital's shock room. The streetcar driver is in shock and is being cared for by Wiener Linien's internal crisis intervention team Sozius. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

"We express our deepest sympathy to the relatives of the man involved in the accident," said Wiener Linien in a statement about the tragic accident.
