Climber fell meters into the rope on the wall

Serious climbing accident on Thursday evening in Haiming in the Tyrolean district of Imst. For reasons still unknown, a 37-year-old woman fell at least five meters before she was caught by the safety rope. The sportswoman had to be rescued by helicopter.

The accident occurred at around 6.30 pm on Thursday on the Geierwand in Haiming. Together with two companions (28 and 27), the 37-year-old was alternately climbing various routes near the "Geierwandführe" when the accident occurred. 

While abseiling down after reaching the top, the 37-year-old fell between around eight and eight meters into the rope for unknown reasons.

After the athlete had reached the top, she wanted to abseil down. According to the police, it is not yet clear exactly what happened next. In any case, the 37-year-old fell five to eight meters into the rope. She suffered serious injuries. 

The rescue helicopter recovered the Austrian woman using a rope and flew her to hospital in Zams.
