This party has the best thoughts on nursing care
The Austrian Healthcare and Nursing Association (ÖGKV) has analyzed the parties' election manifestos with regard to nursing care. Overall, all of them had "very good ideas and approaches", said ÖGKV President Elisabeth Potzmann.
Sometimes, however, it remained just slogans. "We were concerned with the current election programs. Because what is not included in them will not be reflected in the next government program," the ÖGKV announced on Wednesday. In addition, all parties were contacted and asked to share their ideas on areas of care, such as measures to combat staff shortages or funding.
The SPÖ came in first place with eleven out of a possible 15 points. Second place was taken by the NEOS (eight points), just ahead of the two governing parties, the ÖVP and the Greens (seven points each). In fifth place is the FPÖ (seven points), with the MFG bringing up the rear with two and a half points.

"Positively surprised"
Basically, the team was positively surprised. The SPÖ and NEOS are close to their own position paper when it comes to demands for free education or more money for long-term care. According to the ÖGKV, the governing parties are focusing more on past successes than on the future. The FPÖ lacked details and the MFG did not respond to the questions.
The shortest answers, regardless of party, were on the question of funding. However, this is a prerequisite for all other topics. The association also missed the demand to include professional care services in social insurance and a plan to improve the reputation of care.
"We will take another look at the election manifestos before the election and see whether the hoped-for improvement has been achieved," said Potzmann.
