Car overturned
Occupants were not wearing seat belts in alcohol-related accident
A couple from Villach drove off the snow-covered road on a mountain slope on Tuesday evening. Neither of them was wearing a seatbelt and had to be rescued from the wreck.
The 52-year-old husband was at the wheel when he was driving with his wife (46) on the Innerteuchen municipal road in Villach. Not only were neither of them wearing seat belts at the time, but the man had also been drinking alcohol when the accident occurred at around 9.15 pm.
"On the hillside above a residential building, the 52-year-old left the snow-covered road in his car, causing the car to overturn and come to rest on its roof on the municipal road about 10 meters below, directly in front of a residential building," said an officer, describing the course of the accident. The couple were trapped in the vehicle and were unable to free themselves.
Local resident witnessed the accident
Fortunately, a local resident noticed the accident and raised the alarm. "The couple was rescued from the car by the 55 firefighters on duty and taken to Villach Regional Hospital by the emergency services after receiving initial medical treatment," said the police. The 52-year-old's driver's license was temporarily confiscated.
