Truck tire started to burn in tunnel

A tire of a German articulated lorry caught fire on Tuesday while driving through the Oswaldibergtunnel on the Tauernautobahn!

"The driver of the vehicle accompanying the articulated lorry noticed the fire and informed the 41-year-old driver in front of him", according to the police. The latter was able to steer the vehicle combination out of the tunnel and bring it to a halt on the emergency lane.

A following truck driver immediately rushed to help with two hand-held fire extinguishers, enabling the fire to be quickly contained and finally extinguished by the Villach main fire station.

No persons were injured. The amount of property damage is not yet known.
