Salzburg is not exactly attractive for many young people. The "Krone" asked around: students particularly miss affordable housing, good public transport and exciting nightlife.

I wouldn't say that Salzburg is a student city. But the city has the potential to be," says Stephanie Wolfgruber, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Austrian Students' Union (ÖH) in Salzburg. Special courses of study attract students, but the high housing costs act as a deterrent. Anyone who finds a room for around 300 euros is very lucky, as costs of 600 euros per room are not uncommon. "Many students therefore have to commute. This makes it difficult for them to establish themselves in the city." As a result, Salzburg is not exactly lively, as theology student Markus (22) finds.
