Bullet for Hütter
Conny’s emotional chaos: “Emotional, exciting, funny”
"Racing is so emotional, exciting and fun. Today was just incredible": Cornelia Hütter couldn't really categorize her feelings on Saturday after winning the downhill globe.
The Styrian snatched the downhill classification from Lara Gut-Behrami at the last moment. She won the last World Cup race of the season with an all-out attack, with the Swiss only finishing in 17th place.
"Completely unrealistic, but I already had it in my hands. Two days ago, I dreamed that I would get it right in the super-G, I would have had the chance and risked everything," said Hütter. The Austrians were all jubilant in the finish area after Hütter crossed the line, although the dream could have been shattered. "I'm glad we didn't call it a day," said Hütter.
Assinger gets emotional
Head coach Roland Assinger was very emotional and showed glassy eyes. "As a former downhill skier, I have to say that the downhill globe is the globe of the gladiators of modern times. Today was our day, the girls gave their all," said the Carinthian, who was of course also delighted that Austria won the Nations Cup with 4977 points ahead of Switzerland with 4644 and Italy with 4353.
Gut-Behrami thus leaves with the three crystal globes for the overall World Cup, super-G and giant slalom. "If you want to win a crystal globe, you have to be fast throughout the season. Today I simply wasn't able to ski that fast. I think it's well deserved by Conny," said the Swiss skier. But it wasn't the end of the world. "I didn't make it and that's it. But I didn't expect to be able to win three balls."
Hütter won the classification with 397 points ahead of Gut-Behrami (369), the injured Sofia Goggia (ITA/350) and Venier (346), who had also had a chance of winning the crystal.
