“It could have been worse”

A narrow win against Wiener Sportclub, some lucky draws against Mauerwerk and Neusiedl - Krems were not really convincing at the start of the second half of the season, on Friday the co-favorites in the Eastern Football League face FavAC. Coach Tommy Flögel knows where the problems lie.

The frosty winter is over and the balmy spring is slowly making its way into the country. Only Kremser SC doesn't really seem to be thawing out yet. 1:0 against Wiener Sportclub, 2:2 at Mauerwerk and 0:0 against Neusiedl - surely the start to the second half of the season was something else, wasn't it? "I'm not at all dissatisfied with the points haul; if you look at the games, it could have been worse," says coach Tommy Flögel, surprisingly relaxed.

This is mainly because he already knows the problem, but is still working on a solution: "We're struggling with an extremely large number of absentees at the moment, and now have to do without Melezovic as well. It's quite clear that the automatisms don't work like they did in the fall!" However, he can rule out a lack of motivation due to the bad news over the winter that promotion would not be financially possible anyway.

"Relatively at eye level"

Fortunately for Flögel and his Krems team, however, they are not the only ones who have started the spring somewhat stiff from the winter cold. League leaders Rapid II and runners-up Donaufeld have also dropped points, meaning the gap to the top of the table remains unchanged at two points. "The top eight is relatively level. Then there are the surprises like Mauerwerk, who only seem to have kept three players from the fall, and supposedly weaker teams like FavAC, who are slowly getting used to the league. Anything can happen," says Flögel, who is well aware of the quality of the division.

Speaking of FavAC, they will be away from home on Friday evening (7.30pm) for important points. Apart from the bad luck with injuries, Flögel wants to see a return to the basic virtues: "We've relied on the past too often. The boys have to understand again what they have to contribute."
