Marterl destroyed: Teenagers tore Jesus off the cross

Unknown perpetrators took the liberty of a tasteless joke on Friday night in Kramsach in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein: they demolished a shrine and severely damaged a statue of Jesus, among other things. Vandals were also active in the Tyrolean Oberland.

According to the police, one or more young people are probably responsible for the crime in Kramsach. They struck between 7 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. on Friday at a wayside shrine near the access road from Badl to the cycle path. There they tore a wooden Jesus figure from the cross, broke off both of the figure's arms and tore flowers planted around the shrine from the troughs. The strangers also sprayed "obscene lettering" in black paint on a wooden bench 200 meters away, according to the police.

The extent of the damage caused by the unknown perpetrators is still unclear. Investigators assume that the act of vandalism is connected to the damage to several ticket machines at the train stations in Rattenberg and Brixlegg.

In another case of damage to property, the police were able to catch the two suspects fairly quickly: On Friday afternoon, a 19-year-old and a 25-year-old sprayed graffiti on the highway bridge at the highway exit in Imst. A police patrol was able to arrest the two Austrians shortly afterwards. The officers found stolen jewelry of low value, a small amount of cannabis, narcotics paraphernalia and spray cans in the suspects' car. They were charged.
