Mass rush for beer & stilton at the Schweizerhaus

There are some unmistakable signs that spring has returned to the Austrian capital. In addition to the blossoming trees, the meadows that are no longer muddy brown and the slow repopulation of the Danube Island, the opening of the season at the Schweizerhaus is one of them. The "Krone" was there. 

Even before the green lattice gate opened, a crowd had formed in front of it, the appetite for beer and stilts was clearly strong. The seats were quickly filled and the waiters were eager to provide the cheerful guests with drinks and food. 

What the Krügerl costs this year
A number of celebrities, including cathedral priest Toni Faber, physicist Werner Gruber and "Wiesn villain" Georg Mayrhofer, also enjoyed the Budweiser in high spirits and imperial weather. You have to pay a little more for the Krügerl again this year, but the increase has been small.

While the large Helle or Gemischte beer cost 5.60 euros last year (40 cents more than in 2022 due to record inflation), this year's price remains below the magic limit of six euros. At 5.90 euros for half a liter of beer, the increase this time is 30 cents or 5.2 percent - also for the other items on the drinks and food menu - well below the annual inflation rate.

Season until October 31, 2024
In any case, visitors to the season opening were not impressed. The operator family around Karl Kolarik and the Schweizerhaus team will now be welcoming guests until October 31.
