Massacre in Uvalde:
Harry and Meghan at relative’s birthday
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited the town of Uvalde in Texas on Saturday. There, the two surprised the family of a victim of the school massacre. An 18-year-old gunman shot dead two teachers and 19 children in May 2022.
In Uvalde, the British prince and his wife sang a "Happy Birthday" to Irma Garcia's sister.
Garcia was shot dead in the massacre at an elementary school in May 2022. In addition, 19 children and another teacher died. They spoke to Garcia's family about their children and their future.
The US Department of Justice has acknowledged a police failure a year and a half after the shooting rampage at the Texas elementary school. Lives could have been saved. Some police officers were not trained at all to respond to an active shooter.
Criticism of social media
Meghan and Harry had previously attended the South by Southwest festival in Austin on Friday, where the 42-year-old ex-actress talked about her bad experiences with social media.
At the moment, she is staying away from it for her own well-being, she said during the panel discussion. Most of the bullying and abuse she had experienced on social media and online had occurred during her pregnancies with Archie and Lilibet.
Meghan criticized the fact that humanity had been lost in the digital space and in certain areas of the media. "And that needs to change." She understands that a lot of money is being made there. "But even if it makes dollars, it doesn't make sense."
Meghan also said how disturbing she found it as a supporter of women that women showered other women with hate online.
