Left-wing extremists: “We have sabotaged Tesla”
After an arson attack on the power supply, the production of the e-car manufacturer Tesla in Berlin-Brandenburg was completely paralyzed on Tuesday morning. Now there is a letter of confession!
The "Vulkan Group", which is classified as left-wing extremist, wrote a few hours after the blast: "We sabotaged Tesla today." "Together we will bring Tesla to its knees. Switch off for Tesla. Greetings to all on the run, underground in the prisons and in the resistance! Love and strength to all Antif@s!", reads an email from which the "Tagesspiegel" quotes on its website. The "complete destruction of the Gigafactory" is declared to be the long-term goal. The authenticity of the document has yet to be verified.
"Volcano group" is no stranger
The group is by no means unknown to the authorities. Back in 2021, it was held responsible for an arson attack on the power supply to the Tesla construction site in Grünheide at the time.
According to the investigators' findings to date, a high-voltage pylon between Steinfurt and Hartmannsdorf in the Oder-Spree district was set on fire. This caused power outages not only at the Tesla plant in Grünheide, but also in several towns in the surrounding area. However, these have largely been rectified.
Warning about tent: "Explosive ordnance buried here!"
Three volunteer fire departments, employees of the electricity supplier and the police were working to repair the damage when a tent was discovered near the site of the attack. This proclaimed "Explosive ordnance buried here!" specialists from Brandenburg's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service to the scene. The other emergency services had to clear the site.
Tesla expects damage in the millions
According to Tesla itself, all measures have been taken to secure the production facilities. After consulting with the electricity provider Edis, Elon Musk's company does not expect production to restart quickly. "We don't yet know when production can start again. It will take more than a few hours." The damage runs into the millions, the newspaper "BZ" quoted Tesla as saying.
Protests against Tesla expansion plans
The car manufacturer's expansion plans for its plant in Grünheide near Berlin have long since attracted the attention of environmental activists. They have entrenched themselves in dozens of tree houses and tents in a forest that is to be cleared for the expansion of the factory. The activists are being tolerated by the police under strict conditions until mid-March. Lighting fires and leaving garbage behind is prohibited.
