Leashed dog shot during a walk

Shots fired on Thursday afternoon in Güssing: A dog owner was startled when she suddenly heard a loud bang. Seconds later, her dog began to whimper in pain ... 

The woman was walking her two dogs on a lead on a farm track along an open field in the late afternoon when there was a sudden loud bang. The three-year-old dog immediately started whining and howling.

Gunshot wound diagnosed
Immediately afterwards, there was a second bang. The woman rushed to her car and took the injured animal to the vet. The vet determined that it was a gunshot wound in which the upper and lower skin, including the fatty tissue on the dog's back, had been severed. 

The police launched an investigation against unknown perpetrators, the Burgenland Provincial Police Directorate reported on Friday.
