Fall in closed ski area: ski tourer dead

Last Saturday, a 66-year-old ski tourer was critically injured in a fall in Seefeld in Tyrol: the German had rolled over several times on his descent in a ski area that is currently still closed. He lost his fight against death in hospital.

The terrible alpine accident occurred late on Saturday morning in the Rosshütte ski resort in Seefeld, which is currently still closed. "According to witnesses, the ski tourer probably overlooked an artificial snow hill on the descent," reported the police at the time.

Overturned several times
The 66-year-old then apparently fell and is believed to have rolled over several times. "Two ski tourers who immediately followed set the rescue chain in motion and provided first aid until the emergency helicopter crew arrived," it continued.

Seriously injured in hospital
An Alpine police officer and two members of the Seefeld/Reith mountain rescue team, who happened to be passing the scene of the accident, also assisted the first aiders with the resuscitation measures. In the end, the seriously injured man was flown by helicopter to the hospital in Innsbruck.

Doctors were no longer able to help him
The sad news has now come from there: the 66-year-old died of his serious injuries on Monday, the police reported.
