Operation in Höchst
Customs officers seize stolen luxury bikes
A big fish was caught by Austrian customs officers during a routine check on Thursday evening just after the Höchst/St. Margrethen border crossing.
In a foreign van and trailer, the officers came across 27 high-quality e-bikes and bicycles, some of which had been reported stolen in Switzerland. Initial estimates put the total value of the two-wheelers at around 70,000 euros.
A 35-year-old man was at the wheel of the van, accompanied by a 43-year-old passenger. A Federal Police patrol called in arrested the two men and took them to a nearby police station for questioning.
After consultation with the Feldkirch public prosecutor's office, the duo were then released and reported at large. Further investigations into the exact origin of the e-bikes and bicycles are still underway, according to the police.
