Udo Jürgens' music continues to thrill audiences. Now a path on Lake Wörthersee has been named after him.

He would have been 90 years old on September 30: Udo Jürgen Bockelmann from Ottmanach, who studied in Klagenfurt and had his first acclaimed performances in the provincial capital, won the Song Contest with "Merci, Cherie" and became a world star.

On Sunday, after weather-related postponements, the promenade now named after Udo Jürgens on Metnitzstrand am Wörtersee - between the boat landing stage and Villa Lido - was officially inaugurated.

"Udo Jürgens moved, touched, delighted and inspired people for decades," says Mayor Christian Scheider, who is a big Udo fan himself. Friends and companions such as entrepreneur Hannes Jagerhofer also attended the "Celebration for Udo Jürgens", which Gert Prix sang and played Udo classics on the piano: "Our friendship was like a father-son relationship. I am infinitely grateful to him for that."

Barman and restaurateur Rainer Husar remembers: "Udo made other people feel happy on stage." And entrepreneur Inge Unzeitig emphasizes: "Udo was a very special person!"
