Peter Turrini turns 80
“There are moments when you feel at home”
Peter Turrini celebrates his 80th birthday on Thursday. A personal look at the world literary figure from the small town of Maria Saal in Carinthia.
Stormy: that was his arrival on earth and on stage. Turrini's mother Elsa wrote down the former in 1985: "It turned out that another child was coming. We were hoping for a girl who, according to the medical examination, was due in mid-October 1944. But Peter was in a great hurry. He was born on September 26 during a stormy fall night. I wanted to go to hospital, but the Kupferschmid farmer's wife persuaded me to give birth at home. There were always air raid alerts in Wolfsberg. There was no light that night because of the storm. I had to be very quiet during the birth because my two-year-old Hans was sleeping in the crib. Peter was a very peaceful child and laughed at every opportunity. Even if we didn't know what the reason was."
