The “Stella”: living room feeling for all the senses

Vienna gets a new theater: The "Stella" in Café Prückel starts in October with "Bin zwei Wiener, g'schamster Diener"

A Viennese theater cellar full of history and nostalgic memories is being brought back to life: Where Stella Kadmon, legendary grande dame of the "Der liebe Augustin" stage, performed political cabaret and theater with poet Peter Hammerschlag between 1933 and 1938, Thomas Hahn, the new boss of the Ringstrasse Café Prückel, is opening the "Stella" theater in October.

"We want to give theater fans a 'living room feeling' here," Hahn says happily. Yesterday, he presented the project together with artistic director Josephine Striebeck and artistic director Christoph Schobesberger: "Viennese culinary tradition is very important in the coffee house, the theater offerings will also be very Viennese and definitely culinary. And we will keep our Golden Hall open for theatergoers after the performances."

Josephine Striebeck managed a cabaret theater in Berlin, is a musical actress, film production manager and event manager. Schobesberger studied at the Reinhardt Seminar with Klaus Maria Brandauer, Susi Nicoletti and Otto Schenk, played in the series "Für alle Fälle Stefanie", alongside Patrick Swayze in "Jump" and was the Sinatra interpreter in "Frank & Dean".

The "Stella" opens on October 1 with the premiere of "Bin zwei Wiener, g'schamster Diener" with Christoph Schobesberger.

The first in-house production is the Austrian premiere of "So oder so" by Jean-Claude Grumberg (from November 7), followed in spring by Werner Bauer's "Ein Duft von Wirklichkeit" about the German-Jewish composer Werner R. Heymann ("Ein Freund, ein guter Freund").

There will be staged readings ("Oberstory", "Herr Mozart feiert Weihnachten"), song programs ("Wien, Wien nur du allein"), dance evenings, foreign-language theater, such as the cabaret sitcom "Dirty Old Women".
