Teacher warns: “No longer reaching the children”

The standard of teaching is falling, says a concerned teacher at an elementary school in Linz. Especially after the pandemic, the ability to concentrate has diminished, and smartphones are doing the rest. How can schools regain children's attention?

"I've already endured a lot in my life, but I'm reaching my limits in the teaching profession" - a teacher at what she describes as a "hotspot school" in Linz talks about an alarming development: "What you could do with the children 20 years ago is no longer possible. The standard has dropped." Even in craft lessons: "Basic skills such as stitch binding have declined," says the teacher, who wishes to remain anonymous.
