Farmer was overwhelmed: 42 cattle removed

Following a tip-off from the public, a cattle farm in the district of Vöcklabruck was inspected - and broken up on Thursday. "There was imminent danger for the animals being kept due to excessive demands on the livestock farmer", according to the responsible district authority. A farm nearby was recently evacuated.

"The closure of the farm was unavoidable from the point of view of the authorities", according to the Vöcklabruck district authority, which discovered soiling in the stables during an inspection. As a result, the official veterinarians certified a significant deficiency in animal husbandry.

Animals voluntarily surrendered
This was preceded by a tip-off from the public, which set the ball rolling. It was probably received in good time, as the 42 cattle belonging to the overburdened farmer were still in good general condition and there was sufficient food and water available.

The farmer - who is now under investigation for cruelty to animals - finally gave up his 42 cattle voluntarily and they were housed on other farms under the supervision of the official veterinarians.

No feed, hardly any water
Another farm in the district of Vöcklabruck was recently evacuated, as reported. The cattle are said to have lived there in cruel conditions: The feed table was empty, the deep litter area was massively soiled with excrement and the water troughs were broken, the police informed at the time. 94 of the 105 cattle housed in these conditions had to be slaughtered due to their poor condition.
