In a few days' time, the Vienna SPÖ will be holding its provincial party conference. Mayor Michael Ludwig is standing for re-election and the SPÖ is also gearing up for the election campaign.

The Vienna SPÖ provincial party conference on April 20 casts its shadow ahead. First personnel decision without a vote: Member of the National Council Petra Bayr will no longer run for the executive board of the Vienna SPÖ. However, the allotment garden scandal naturally has nothing to do with the decision. Regardless of this, the Vienna SPÖ will be preparing for the National Council elections and the 2025 municipal council elections at the state party conference. It is doing this with a comprehensive 227-page program, which is already available to the "Krone".

Better quality of life, health and leisure
The key issues are working hours, poverty and health. Under the slogan "More of life, less work", the SPÖ is calling for a reduction in working hours "to healthy full-time". This means that no one should be forced to work part-time (too little work) or overtime (too much work). The goal is full employment. Recommendation to the delegates: Accept.

Six weeks' vacation for all, plus one week for employees with disabilities.

This goes hand in hand with the demands for a sixth week of leave for all, the restriction of all-in agreements or the right to be unavailable during free time. Recommendation: Accept.

The fight against long-term unemployment is also being declared. Companies will be subsidized for non-wage labor costs in return for a job guarantee, which promises lower costs for the public sector in the long term. Recommendation: Allocation to the municipal council club.

137 proposals

can be found in the 227-page catalog of issues. However, not all of them necessarily have to be implemented - many are "cleared away" to working groups.

But the program also includes other more tangible proposals. Under the title "Empty garbage cans, full plates", a "social shelf meter" is called for. Supermarkets of a certain size should be obliged to make usable but unsaleable food available to the needy free of charge on special shelves. This could also be dealt with by the Club first.

The City of Vienna should take all necessary measures to limit land consumption and examine whether alternative cultivation concepts such as vertical and urban farming can be implemented in social housing.

Young people should also be better protected from alcohol. A ban on the sale of alcohol in the direct checkout area and a mandatory display of information material on alcoholism in the area where alcohol is sold are being considered. Recommendation: Adoption.

Vienna's response to femicides and violence
The new program also aims to counteract the increasing violence against women. The training item "Violence against women/violence in social settings" is to be mandatory for all new police trainees and regularly refreshed.

The hot topic of housing and affordable housing will also be addressed more intensively. Short-term lettings are to be further restricted and social housing is to be promoted. "The SPÖ Vienna opposes any form of profit maximization through the privatization of cooperative and social housing," the programme states. Recommendation: Accept.

Interesting: Only five motions can be found under "International affairs, human rights and integration". These include "For a just and lasting peace in the Middle East" and "Up international solidarity".
