It was her loud, panicked screams that probably saved the life of a 59-year-old Mongolian woman. When her drunken husband of the same age tried to throw her out of a high-rise building in Graz - she was already hanging over the windowsill up to her waist - a passer-by became aware of the attempted murder. "Hey, hey," he shouted upwards and was probably able to prevent worse.

The couple have lived in Austria since 2011 and in Graz for six years. The 59-year-old had trained as a retail salesman in his home country, but no longer practiced this profession in Austria. Alcohol is likely to cause him problems, as he is said to reach for the bottle several times a month - preferably vodka.

On the day of the crime last September, the worker had also drunk almost a whole bottle - he apparently wanted to combat the hangover from the previous day. It is unclear why he then suddenly attacked his wife out of nowhere. The whole thing may have been preceded by an argument about his drinking behavior.

What is certain is that he grabbed the 59-year-old woman and pushed her face first towards the open kitchen window. Due to the massive use of force, the helpless woman was hanging upside down from the window within seconds. The Mongolian was completely unimpressed by her fearful screams.

But a passer-by, who had been visiting his uncle in the same house, became aware of the insane goings-on. "Hey, yo," he shouted up to the fifth floor. At the same time, a resident on the third floor saw the 59-year-old's head hanging from the balcony above him. "What's wrong with you?" he shouted in shock. 

Victim has already forgiven perpetrator
By the time the police arrived, the situation had calmed down. The 59-year-old was arrested. Next Tuesday, April 16, he will have to answer to the jury for attempted murder. Incidentally, his wife has since forgiven him because she still loves him.
