New landlord found
Traditional inn is given a new lease of life
In contrast to many other restaurants in Linz, the traditional "Tramway" restaurant in Stockhofstraße did not have to stand on the "siding" for long. It will be cooking again from June. Owner Manfred Grubauer: "I'm delighted that the pub culture in the Stockhofviertel is being preserved."
Since the end of last year, the oven in the traditional restaurant in the Wilhelminian-style building at Stockhofstraße 27 has been off. As reported, tenant Helmut Mayrleb cooked up one last meal for his regulars on the Friday before Christmas before closing his popular restaurant for health reasons.
Tram-style pub
Owner Manfred Grubauer, who set up the "Tramway" in 1979 in the style of the M streetcar line, which was discontinued in 1968 and once ran from Weißenwolffstraße via Mozartkreuzung to Weingartshofstraße, said in an interview with the "Krone" at the end of December: "As we live above it, I want casual people. The only condition: The traditional pub culture with regulars' tables and home cooking should be retained."
In view of the many empty restaurants in and around Linz, the former head of the Linz Tourism Supervisory Board knew that finding a new landlord would not be an easy task, but he was confident that he would find a successor for Mayrleb before the summer.
There were many rumors, such as that we would tear down the building and build a penthouse. We are happy that we have a landlord again.

Pub culture remains in the Stockhof district
And lo and behold, it actually worked out. Even though Grubauer does not yet want to name his new tenant, he can reassure all streetcar romantics and "Tramway" fans: "Yes, contrary to all rumors, I can confirm that the inn will probably reopen in June. I am particularly pleased that the pub culture in the Stockhof district will be preserved."
