Wimmer: “We are all called upon to help Muki!”

Austrias striker Muharem Huskovic's nasal bone was broken during an attack. No operation is planned, the striker will train with a mask.

Monday evening, 20th district of Vienna, Dresdner Straße: Muharem Huskovic was about to withdraw money from an ATM when a man approached the 21-year-old and tried to force him to withdraw the money and hand it over.

Perpetrator fled
Austrias striker then paid dearly for his refusal: The unknown man punched Huskovic in the face a few times before fleeing, Huskovic was examined that same evening at the AKH, a multiple nasal fracture was diagnosed, fortunately an operation is not necessary as things stand, a report was filed with the police.

This is not the first time that Austrias youngster has had to endure anxious moments off the pitch: in October 2022, he was involved in a serious traffic accident on the south-east highway near Pottendorf (Lower Austria); he was in the passenger seat and was rescued from a burning wreck and taken to the intensive care unit at Baden Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a torn right posterior cruciate ligament, a ruptured spleen and concussion, among other things.

Last summer, he had made his comeback to the Austrias' squad, now the attack ...

Coach seeks conversation
... which his coach found out about a little later: "I was informed about it on Monday evening, if you get attacked like that, it's obviously not funny," said Michael Wimmer. He will seek a conversation with Huskovic at training today: "Muki says he's fine, but I will and must see for myself, as a coach you are called upon in a situation like this, the whole club is now called upon to help the player. Knowing everyone at Austria, I know that this will happen".

In sporting terms? Wimmer honestly: "According to the doctor, he's quite fit for sport, he'll be given a special mask, we'll see how it really looks. For me, he is currently questionable for Saturday's game at the WAC".
