Gravity, lightness and a more colorful future

Two new exhibitions are luring visitors to the Grazer Kunsthaus: sculptor Alicja Kwade comments on Sol LeWitt's "Wall" with her works, while Eva Egermann and Cordula Thym extend their Diagonale trailer into the room.

Alicja Kwade is no stranger to the international art scene. In her works, the Berlin-based sculptor repeatedly explores the relationships between body and space, matter and spirit. In doing so, she likes to question what we accept as scientifically proven and makes us doubt our perception.

She also succeeds in doing this with her few, but all the more expressive works at the Grazer Kunsthaus. Around Sol LeWitt's "Wall", she plays with the concepts of lightness and heaviness and thus enters into a very direct dialog with the dominant wall.

Playing with heaviness and lightness
Right at the beginning, we encounter perfectly formed marble spheres, one of which is transformed into the "Siège du Monde", the seat of the world, by a bronze chair. Bronze also forms an orange peel on a narrow white marble base, the density of which is palpable. The weight of the stones, which move elegantly as a mobile in "Superheavy Skies", can only be guessed at. And finally, we discover a clock that does not show the time, because it itself stands for time.

In all of her works, Kwade questions the laws of physics with extremely precisely executed objects. And with a gentle wink, she pushes our view of the world out of joint. Exciting and beautiful - until May 5.

Eva Egermann and Cordula Thym, winners of the Diagonale Award for Innovative Cinema 2023, are also not satisfied with our view of the world. So, in cooperation with the film festival, they are showing their presentation "C-TV" as a "contribution to shifting the social atmosphere of the earth".

Using props and background materials, they transform the award-winning film "C-TV" into a space of experience and show a world in which diversity reigns, people with disabilities enrich the community with splendid colorfulness and everything that is considered the norm today belongs to a bygone past.

Accessibility is part of the program in this exhibition, including the accompanying literature and simple-language signage as well as the extensive educational program for schools.
