Police investigate
Lilliputbahn derailed: Attack suspected!
Shock in Vienna's Wurstelprater: a screw caused the locomotive to tip over, but fortunately without any injuries. Was a cowardly act of sabotage behind it?
At around 11.15 a.m. on Sunday, a dangerous incident occurred on the popular Liliput train in the Wurstelprater. The legendary train derailed.
Passengers got off on their own
The accident happened very close to the "Schweizerhaus-Luftburg" station. Fortunately, no one was injured - all passengers and the driver were able to get off the train safely. Around an hour later, a crane was used to lift the Lilliput train that had been involved in the accident back onto the correct track. By 2.45 p.m., the train was able to resume service. However, the shock is still deep-seated, as the accident is suspected to have been an act of cowardly sabotage.
Police have already started investigations
The Lilliputbahn told the "Krone" that a massive, screw-like piece of metal was found at the scene of the accident, which presumably caused the locomotive to derail. Charges have been filed against unknown persons - the police are investigating.
The locomotives on the Liliputbahn reach a speed of around 30 kilometers per hour. The entire route is almost four kilometers long and takes around 20 minutes. The popular train was first put into operation in 1928 and started its 96th season in mid-March.
