Finely seasoned: “Dinner for two” with the minister

It sounds like a romantic date, but the meeting between Tanner and Drobits was actually about serious topics relating to our army.

There is only time for romance in everyday working life in high politics in exceptional cases. However, a dose of humor was not to be missed during the official date between SPÖ parliamentarian Christian Drobits and Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP).

Political appetizer
As part of a National Council meeting, the Social Democrat MP had invited to a "dinner for two" in Güssing. "The invitation to a meeting was intended as a charming intervention to let the minister experience for herself what the region has to offer," explains Drobits. A political appetizer, so to speak, without any bitter aftertaste!

Positive signals
"Klaudia Tanner took the time to discuss our concerns directly on site and has shown the first positive signs of supporting the regional economy. This is an important step for Güssing and the whole of southern Burgenland," the SPÖ parliamentarian sums up.

Own troop kitchen
The "main course" of this extraordinary "dinner for two" was the Montecuccoli barracks in Güssing, one of the most modern barracks in Europe, which, according to Drobits, should be developed into a first-class security island and equipped with its own troop kitchen.

This status would not only ensure the self-sufficiency of the emergency services in the event of a crisis, but would also represent an important operations center in the event of a blackout and thus make a decisive contribution to supplying the population.

Fresh food instead of reheated food
In addition, he sees a great opportunity for the economy in having a dedicated troop kitchen. Drobits criticizes the fact that many regional suppliers do not have access to the current "Cook & Chill" catering system. "An enormous loss for all districts in southern Burgenland," says Drobits. Freshly prepared meals are always preferable to "reheated food" - also for health reasons.

Expansion of the barracks
However, the Member of the National Council reacted quite confidently to the "dessert": "The Minister has shown a willingness to talk about setting up a troop kitchen - provided that the barracks have enough trained chefs. She also indicated that the barracks will be continuously expanded." That is very much to the taste of the entire region.
