Chamber of Labor
Ready for one of the “most comfortable elections”
The Chamber of Labor elections in Burgenland start on April 10. 81,200 employees are entitled to vote in these elections. How the ballot works and what to watch out for.
The AK election is just a few days away. In these elections, the members of the AK will decide what the composition of the plenary assembly - which consists of 50 chamber councillors - will look like in the future. Postal voting cards are currently being sent out. Employees can use these to cast their vote from home. 67 percent of those entitled to vote will use this form of voting.
Voting at the workplace
The remaining 33 percent can vote in one of the approximately 400 company districts. Depending on the company structure, several voting times and different voting locations are possible for one company. The details will be announced in a letter from the electoral office at the beginning of April. Anyone who is not in the company on the election days can apply for a voting card at the AK Burgenland election office by April 7 at the latest.
Apprentices and the unemployed are also entitled to vote
Not only members who are liable to pay contributions are entitled to vote, but also around 2000 apprentices, marginally employed persons, persons on parental leave, persons on military or civilian service and persons who have become unemployed in the past 12 months. The minimum age is15 years, Austrian citizenship is not required.
Four parliamentary groups
The FSG with President Gerhard Michalitsch as list leader, the ÖVP employees with Johannes Mezgolits, the Freiheitliche Arbeitnehmer with Alexander Reinprecht and Gemeinsam AUGE/UG with Maria Mauk are standing for election. The FSG currently has 37 chamber councillors. "The AK election is one of the easiest and most convenient elections we have in Austria. In total, our polling stations are open for 1662 hours," explains Michalitsch.
Voting closes on April 23 at 4 pm. The votes will be counted on April 24, when a provisional result will also be available.
