Resuscitated farmer (74) dies in hospital

The case of a farmer from Eggelsberg came to a sad end on Saturday. After a tragic accident at work on his farm on Friday, the 74-year-old was initially successfully resuscitated and flown to hospital. However, the injuries were apparently so severe that the patient died in hospital the next day.  

Unfortunately, all the efforts of the medical staff at Salzburg Hospital were ultimately unable to save the 74-year-old from Eggelsberg. The old farmer from Innviertel succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital on Saturday. 

As reported, the man was working in the courtyard of his farm on Friday morning, attaching and detaching a compulsory mixer to and from his tractor. To do this work, he had to stand on the PTO shaft between the mixer and the tractor. This is when the accident happened: the 74-year-old may have accidentally operated the hydraulic lever.

As a result, the farmer was trapped between the tractor and the compulsory mixer. His wife found him shortly after 11 a.m. and immediately raised the alarm. The arriving emergency services had to resuscitate the 74-year-old on the spot. Three fire departments helped with the rescue. The seriously injured man was flown by rescue helicopter to Salzburg Regional Hospital, where he died the following day.
