EM: Public viewing in the “Fan Arena” on Rathausplatz
The European Football Championship in Germany will be broadcast live at a central location in Vienna. There will be a free "fan arena" with public viewing at Rathausplatz. This was announced by Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) on Friday. The matches of the ÖFB team and the final games will be shown.
The film festival, which is organized by Stadt Wien Marketing, also takes place on Rathausplatz this summer. It has now entered into a cooperation with Servus TV, the official media partner of Euro 2024 in Austria. This means that the fan arena will start before the festival - with the first match against France on June 17. At least six matches will be shown live on Rathausplatz.
These are all three Austria matches in Group D as well as the two semi-finals and the final live from Berlin. Should Austria qualify for the round of 16 of the tournament, this match will also be broadcast on Rathausplatz. If Austria even manages to reach the quarter-finals, the match will also be shown.
The Rathausplatz will remain closed on the days between June 17 and June 28 when the home team is not playing. On June 29, the film festival will start its regular 34th season there. However, the music film program will be cancelled on at least the three remaining match days in favour of the European Championship broadcasts.
Admission to all matches is free. In order to provide the fans with food and drink, more than 20 restaurateurs of the film festival will set up their stands earlier and also provide culinary delights in the Fan Arena.
"Euphoria ignited"
"The success of the national team in recent years has sparked a real euphoria in Austria. Reason enough for the city to offer all soccer fans an unforgettable European Championship experience in the heart of Vienna," said Mayor Ludwig in a statement: "Rathausplatz has already proven to be an excellent location for soccer broadcasts in recent years and will also offer ideal and safe conditions for the 2024 European Championships."
