Clarification and tips
Cycle lanes cause confusion
The multi-purpose lanes for cyclists are apparently not so easy to understand - incidents occur time and again, especially in city centers. The police and traffic planners give tips on this on Sustainability Day in Spittal.
Multi-purpose lanes are the modern cycle paths in the city. But not every road user is familiar with them. "Both motorists and cyclists often don't know exactly how to use these lanes correctly," observes Deputy Mayor Angelika Hinteregger in Spittal's city center.
"Stripes are for cyclists"
But because these stripes are the future, Spittal chief inspector Johann Ramsbacher explains how to behave correctly when using them: "These stripes are intended for cyclists. They may only be used by other vehicles if the lane to the left of this strip is not wide enough - for example in meeting traffic," adds the police officer: "Drivers must be particularly considerate of cyclists - i.e. stop behind bikers or wait until it is possible to pass."
A day for sustainability
As more of these lanes are being installed in the town of Lieser, those responsible also want to draw attention to them on Sustainability Day, which takes place on April 19 in the town park. "The cycle lanes that have been in place since the fall can be tested and evaluated. Interested parties can cycle through the city together with the police and receive tips. There will also be traffic area managers and planners on site," adds Hinteregger.
