Medvedev crashes into Sinner in Miami semifinals

Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev set up the first men's semi-final at the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami on Wednesday. Australian Open winner Sinner, currently number 3 in the tennis world, defeated the Czech Tomas Machac 6:4,6:2 after 91 minutes. The 22-year-old Italian will meet the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who eliminated the Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6:2,7:6(7), in the "dream semi-final".

This will not only be a repeat of the Melbourne final, but also perhaps the best final to date in Vienna last October (both went to Sinner). "It will probably be a tactical match," predicted Sinner. "It will be an interesting test for me," said the South Tyrolean after his 20th win of the year. He is still two victories short of his third title of the season after Melbourne and Rotterdam. His only defeat came in the semi-finals of Indian Wells against Carlos Alcaraz.

Medvedev is the defending champion in Miami and seems to be in form for a repeat. He certainly didn't drop a set until the semi-finals. But Medvedev has been warned about Sinner. "He's playing better and better. He has self-confidence. Even though I watch him on TV and he has problems in some matches - he finds solutions and only champions do that."

Alcaraz against Dimitrov
The second semi-final will be determined on Thursday (today). Top seed Alcaraz will face Grigor Dimitrov (BUL-11), Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (GER-4) will play Fabian Marozsan (HUN).

There will be a surprise semi-final for the women at the same venue: Danielle Collins will face Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova. The 30-year-old American and 2022 Australian Open finalist defeated Caroline Garcia (FRA-23) 6:3, 6:2. Collins, who is retiring at the end of the season, will not be facing her countrywoman Jessica Pegula, who is seeded No. 5. Alexandrova continued her run after defeating the top seed from Poland, Iga Swiatek, with a 3:6,6:4,6:4 win over Pegula.
