Where John Paul II kissed the ground in 1988, an open-air festival will take place in August with top bands and great entertainment.

After the helicopter landed on the airfield in Trausdorf in 1988 and Pope John Paul II kissed the Burgenland soil, 80,000 people celebrated mass with the Holy Father there.

There probably won't be that many on August 3 and 4, but it will certainly be divine and there will be plenty of partying when Turbobier with lead singer Marco Pogo and Pizzera & Jaus rock the stage at the former airfield. "Celebrate like the Pope is our motto," says Florian Andronik, who is organizing the premiere of the Airfield Sounds Festival in his home community.

A festival around the clock
There will be room for 10,000 people in the stands on the evening of August 3, and of course there will be an entrance fee. But not for the festival, which starts in the morning, is rounded off after the concerts with a disco after midnight and ends the following day with a morning pint: "We want to round off this unique open-air feeling with a variety of food stalls, shooting galleries and fairground rides," says Andronik.

Those who are quick can book "Party and sleep" at the Hotel Galantha in Eisenstadt: a cab will take guests to Trausdorf and pick them up again from there.
