"Not appreciative"
Salary trouble! Ex-RB kicker takes action against Eberl
Emil Forsberg takes a stand against Max Eberl! The Swede, who moved from RB Leipzig to the New York Red Bulls at the end of January, complains about a lack of appreciation.
"It was my goal and that of my advisor Hasan Cetinkaya when we spoke to the club about an extension in the summer. I really wanted to stay, but I wanted a perspective beyond 2025. But then things happened and the whole thing took a different direction," Forsberg explains in an interview with "Sport Bild".
And then the 32-year-old adds: "Former sports director Max Eberl (editor's note: now head of sport at FC Bayern Munich) made me an offer that I didn't value. I didn't want to earn more, I would even have accepted a slightly lower salary. But then I was supposed to give up 50 percent. I didn't feel respected! I always gave my all for Leipzig."
Comeback announced
In the end, Forsberg decided to move to the MLS. He signed a contract with the New York Red Bulls until 2026, but has already announced a comeback in Germany: "The fact is: I have to come back to Leipzig, in some form or another. I think I still have a lot to give."
Rangnick a "fantastic mentor"
Possibly as sports director. Ralf Rangnick also plays a role here. "A fantastic mentor, I've seen and learned a lot from him. Especially when it comes to skills off the pitch. I've learned a lot from Ralf," says Forsberg.
