Defendant on a leash
Eleven years in prison for “right-hand man” of mafia godfather
The alleged "right-hand man" of the alleged mafia godfather Dario D. alias "Dexter", who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Vienna in December 2023, was sentenced on Tuesday at the Vienna Regional Court. The 29-year-old Dejan S. was sentenced to eleven years in prison for bringing 43 kilograms of cocaine and 39 kilograms of heroin to Austria within just two months and placing seven kilograms of narcotics on the market.
The right-hand man of Dario D., alias "Dexter", was sentenced to eleven years' imprisonment at the Vienna Regional Court on Tuesday. Dejan S. had brought large quantities of cocaine and heroin to Austria within two months. The sentence is not yet final, as both the defense and the public prosecutor's office have lodged an appeal.
Strict security precautions
As with the now convicted mafia godfather Dario D. alias "Dexter", the trial took place under strict security precautions, with a massive presence of security forces and an absolute ban on photography and filming. Anyone wishing to pass through and attend the trial had to identify themselves with ID, with their details being recorded in writing by officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office.
Dejan S. was escorted into the courtroom in handcuffs and shackles by heavily armed officers. The 29-year-old was also on a leash: he wore a belt around his waist with a large loop, the end of which was held tightly in his hand by an officer sitting very close to the accused.
Denied connections
The 29-year-old denied any connection to "Dexter's" organization and complained about the detention conditions. He is under investigation for involvement in a murder in Serbia.
Brutal methods
The indictment is based on intercepted chats documenting the criminal activities. "Dexter" has already been sentenced to life imprisonment, but his case is not yet closed.
The chats show "Dexter's" brutal methods and his role as the leader of the Montenegrin Kavac clan, to which numerous murders are attributed in addition to drug and arms trafficking. "Dexter" was heard as a witness during the trial, but via video conference for security reasons.
