Vienna: Pedestrian (26) hit by truck

A 26-year-old pedestrian was hit by a truck in Vienna-Simmering on Monday morning and seriously injured by the impact with another car.

According to the police, the pedestrian had entered Simmeringer Hauptstraße directly behind a stopping bus. A truck traveling out of town was unable to brake in time. As a result of the impact, the 26-year-old was knocked into another car driving into the city.

"The Vienna Emergency Medical Services provided the man with emergency medical care and took him to hospital. The traffic accident command of the Vienna Provincial Traffic Department took over the further investigation into the course of the accident," reported police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger.

The accident caused considerable traffic obstructions, as the Simmeringer Hauptstraße was closed for more than an hour
