Horror accident survived
Teenager hung on overhead line for 1 hour after crash
When you see the picture of the accident scene, it's hard to imagine that a 16-year-old American girl survived this incident: The teenager was hanging on an overhead power line ten meters above the ground for an hour after losing control of her vehicle. Although Kennedy Littledike lost a leg, she believes that the accident actually saved her life - and wants to encourage other people on social media.
Littledike from Idaho was driving a couple she was friends with home shortly after sunset on May 22, 2021. She later revealed to "Inside Edition" that she was depressed with heartbreak and suffered an emotional breakdown while driving on a lonely country road: "I had a crying fit and jerked the wheel to the right. We skidded and crashed into a power pole. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out and was hanging from my broken leg, head down from the power line."
The crazy thing: Littledike only survived because she suffered an electric shock when she came into contact with the cable. Her broken femur had perforated her artery and Littledike would have bled out within minutes if the electric shock had not cauterized her leg artery and stopped the bleeding.
After amputation: "I thought my life was over"
It took an hour for a local resident to find the three unconscious, seriously injured teenagers. Littledike had been hit the hardest by far. In addition to her femur, she had also broken her upper arm, sternum and collarbone and needed a total of 21 operations. Surgeons tried in vain to save the high school student's left leg, but were unsuccessful.
She found out about the amputation after waking up from her father: "At that moment, I was sure my life was over. But then I was told that my friend and her boyfriend hadn't lost any limbs. That suddenly made me happy - as the driver, I was completely responsible for the accident."
Littledike decided "in that second" to make the best of her fate. She shares her fate with a lot of humor on her social media channels: "The first thing I did was nickname my leg stump Gobi and even made up a dance for it. Because the circumstances of my accident made headlines everywhere, I got an incredible number of followers."
Teenager happier today than before the accident
Littledike even believes that the accident saved her life in the end. She had previously suffered from severe depression: "I was on the verge of committing suicide a few times beforehand. I saw no future for myself. Today I look back and think 'Wow, how stupid I was'. I'm much happier on one leg today than I've ever been." The boyfriend she was heartbroken over has since got back together with her.
