After "daughter trick"
Tyrolean handed over jewelry to fake police in Hungary
Fraudsters were once again successful with the so-called "police trick". A Tyrolean man (88) from Imst fell victim to the crooks. Particularly blatant: with the story that the man's daughter had been involved in an accident, the perpetrators tricked the man into handing over valuables twice. The Tyrolean even drove all the way to Hungary for one of the handovers.
According to the police, the 88-year-old was contacted at around 5 p.m. on January 31. The perpetrators pretended to be police officers and claimed that the daughter had been involved in an accident in which a child had also died. The crooks demanded a five-figure euro sum as bail. Otherwise, they threatened to make the accident public. This apparently caused a huge shock for the Tyrolean.
"The 88-year-old offered to hand over his gold coin collection as bail. The perpetrators agreed and a handover was arranged that evening in Innsbruck," the police report. In the end, the perpetrators persuaded the senior citizen to drive to Upper Austria, where the handover took place. But that was not all.
When the daughter contacted the 88-year-old, the scam was uncovered.

Second handover took place in Hungary
On the return journey, the fake police officers contacted the man again. They claimed that another accident victim had died. Once again, the perpetrators demanded a six-figure sum in euros. Once again, the pensioner took jewelry and other valuables from the safe. On February 1, the Tyrolean drove off again. This time he was even directed to a petrol station behind the Austrian border in Hungary, where the handover took place.
When the daughter contacted the 88-year-old, the scam was discovered. The loss suffered by the pensioner was in the six-figure euro range.
